SD cards problems, help?

Hello everyone,

I have problems with my sd cards.... I bought 3 sandisk 32gb extreme cards 6 months ago. For some extras for my trip.

I tested all of them when I bought them both in my compact and my gopro, they all worked fine and I cleared the test photos from the disks.

Since my camera was stolen in Mongolia I was lucky enought to get a camera gifted to me for Christmas. I have got these extra sd cards out again and now it only seems that one of them is working.

I again tested in both my gopro and my new compact, they are not being read and won't format. Also won't read on my iMac.....

The sd cards have been stored in their cases they come with since I got them. Haven't got wet or damaged etc so this isn't the problem.

Is there a way I can fix/solve the problem, or are they just buggered.

Can someone edit the title to this thread to 'SD' rather than 'sad'. Thanks

(Done, regards Reggie)

Try getting them formatted in Windows or DOS to FAT (not FAT32).
If no joy, bin them and buy 16Gig units... less to go bad in one hit.

They are quite cheap this days - SD / SDHC Cards MemoryBits - The Flash Memory Shop

I haven't got a windows computer anymore, it broke down and was replaced with the apple set up.
I shall look into trying that though.

First check the copper connectors are not damaged or missing.
Next clean the connectors on the card with alchohol
Next try another SD card reader as it may be faulty or the USB cable
To reformat the card place it in the card reader, connect it to your mac, then go >, Finder > Utilities> Disk Utility> Reformat.
If this does not work then there are loads of SD card revovery programs on the web that you can download and try.

I´m sure you have checked the tiny write-protected switch on the cards prior to formatting attempt?

Cheers

How are you connecting them to your iMac? Have you connected them and opened up Disc Utility?

Hmmm,

Assuming you've tried them on a different computer...

Where the cards bought from a reputable vendor (not Amazon)?

There are tones of fakes flying around which have a habit of randomly dying.

The fakes are very convincing and hard to spot. They are rife in S-E Asia.

Good luck with contacting Sandisk and hope they resolve the problem for you.

SD class?

what class are the SD cards?, on them it should display a number with what looks like a letter 'C' around it, and what camera have you got? just because I have experienced in the past that if the SD cards have a number lower than 4 on them then they are useless, I always go for class '10' because its perfect for both filming and photos

SD

Had problems with sandisc cards before.
Give this a go.
Try formatting them in your or a friends camera.
That got a card working for me once.
Worth a try.
Dave.
