Worshop In Melbourne
G'day folks,
I've already joined the Melbourne "Community" but thought I'd post on here anyway.
Just getting back into the bike scene after many years away...kids, mortgage, 4x4 etc, ....and getting a Transalp once the 4x4 is sold. Only recently found this site and thought I might put my two cents worth in. If anyone passing through Melbourne is looking for the use of a workshop, cost free, to do a bit of maintenance etc. before, or after, seeing the country, feel free to email me. Can't help with spare parts, but got just about everything else...welding gear etc... but we're not far from the city and close to the main highways leading North and West. Always willing to talk over a coffee, and pick your brains about your bike, travels etc.

Welcome. You have a good group of people down there. They do have the ocasional get together ... should do one in Sydney too...
You are in a high risk group - 'returning motorcyclist after a brake' .. they have a high risk of crashing.. suggest you do a motorcycle rider training course .. don't want to loose you! There are even dirt 'large bike' riding courses .. but they are not that frequent (and the next one is up north in Casio in August..).

Thanks
Thanks for the wecome Frank.
I am going to do a course at Honda. Heard all the anecdotes about us oldies getting back on a bike so I thought I'd better lower the odds a bit. I have been invited to do an advanced off road course to, I think with the same people running the one at Casino, but a later one that's a bit nearer to Melbourne. I don't think the actual riding is going to be too much of a problem as I have been doing a bit of of road stuff. But getting used to being back amongst the traffic promises to be an adventure I think. I'll be just abling around a few of the local streets for a little while I think. But at least it won't be on a big sports bike; I think I'm well over that stage of my riding.
Take care out there.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
