Quito, Ecuador Outstanding Repair & Maintenance Shop

I highly recommend City Motosport near the Plaza de las Américas on Mañosca between Avenida de la República and Avenue América. I have used this and completely trust 'Chilly Willy.' This family-run shop is very knowledgeable, with Willy as a master mechanic. It's not a big shop, but Willy takes special pride in helping travelers.
I recently asked HUBB members for a shop to help me with a charging problem and was directed to the Suzuki dealership. I decided instead to return to Willy, and am very glad I did so.
I had made the mistake of buying a bike in Santiago, sight unseen from two Australians. Even though I went to Jonny Motosport (also outstanding) and had extensive maintenance/repair done there, I did not experience the charging problem until I headed North. After being stranded repeatedly, I attempted to have the charging issue diagnosed and fixed at three different repair shops in Chile and Peru. I bought a new battery, thermostat, and even watched the stator being rewound. All to no avail as the issue returned time after time.
Now I'm a seasoned rider with over 150,000 miles in the past seven years of full time travelling in 60+ countries. I have learned to at least diagnose most problems and do many repairs and all maintenance myself. This stumped me, but looked forward to getting to Willy's for help.
Sure enough, he found the cause in short order: the switch between the thermostat and radiator fan was intermittent. Unfortunately, the Suzuki dealership was a travesty to work with, but Willy found the needed parts.
As a long time dealership (car, truck, motorcycle) trainer/consultant hired by manufacturers to improve customer service in many countries(25+), I was appalled at the parts location process used by the Suzuki dealership and do not recommend using them.
A last verification that Willy is the goto guy for bike repair of all makes is who uses him. The presidential motorcycle escort service sends all their bikes to him because they trust him . . . like I have learned to do.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
