Yo Tiff, it was more fun than most people can handle but we managed.... basically we pissed ourselves laughing but handled the machine quite well. We steered by powering round corners, go left= right hand bike drive, go right= left hand bike drive, like a tank..!!! I want to go next year mob handed so we need a posse from cornwall to meet up with Mark's posse from the midlands. We take a truck n trailer like everyone else....!!! We have a plan for next years snow machine, watch this space.....

Blushes all round now Glad I could help with the tube.

The XL1200 looked the part and certainly got a lot of attention -

This bit of YouTube video shows it in action -

Elephant Rally 2013 - two XL600's bolted together - YouTube

After this year I'm coming to the conclusion that what's needed is less this kind of camping -

and much more this -

Most of the regulars seem to have worked out that a wood burning stove and a load of straw bales are much more useful.

I've just got to figure out how to load them onto the bike :confused1:

If there's another year like this though a boat might be more useful than a bike to get through the sea of mud -

I did actually manage to find some snow to ride through on the way back though -

It made a change from being run off the road by the trucks.

Full story here - The voyages of HMS Bloop
(or at least it will be the full story when I finish it)

Great write up, well done all and thank you for reminding me of the lows as well as the highs of the Elefant. The Belgian petrol station bit I can well remember, as well as wandering back and forth with 10€ notes to avoid taking the lid, balaclava, earplugs, face mask and inner gloves off, I then trod on my heated jacket connector!

No more Elefants for me unless I take about three weeks over it, only ride in the middle of the day and not worry if getting fuel and a hot drink takes an hour.

Andy

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
