Bulgaria08

Hi all, here are some pics of a trip we did in SW Bulgaria during the summer. We hired two Dakars from Motoroads.com in Sofia and headed SW into the Rila, Pirin and Rodopos mountains for some trail riding. On a previous and more extensive tour of Bulgaria we found the SW to be the most interesting with the best trails. the Dakars proved excellent bikes on the less than perfect roads although i found them to be a little heavy for the rougher trails compared to my XT600E in Scotland. There is a very large network of logging trails not listed on maps which provide great trail routes around the Devlin /Trigrad area. For some Western comforts the ski resorts of Bansko and Boroverts are worth a visit. i have never posted photos before so please accept my apologies if they do not appear. they can also be view here if they don't show at Bulgaria 08 cheers Andy

Waooooo....Andy thanks for the pictures!

Great trip you did.Yes you are absolutely right.Rodopa Mountain is the best one here in BG,but next time try to go from Sofia to Borovets(Rila Mountain)then further to town called Gotse Delchev, which staying between Pirin Mountain and Rodopa Mountain, then to the east part of Rodopa town called Kurdjali.Close to Kurdjali you can visit the archeological sight Perpericon(excellent ancient ruins from the Tracians),then further east to Strandja Mountain and Black Sea coast line close to Tsarevo. So we are going to do the same trip in the begining/middle of May,ofcourse be welcome to join us if you want.95% percent of the trip will be off-road.

Cheers,

Simon

Hi Simon, i have better photos from our tour of Bulgaria in 06 which i will try and post in the next few weeks (i have to scan them all first ). Your trip sounds great and i would have loved to join you but unfortunately i already have plans to tour around the Black Sea and the Balkens for 8 weeks leaving Scotland mid June. We will be in Bulgaria for a few days of week 5.
This year we did travel around Borovets, Bansko, Melnik, Gotse Delchev, Dospat, Trigrad, Mugla, Devin, Shirika Luka, Smolyan, Batak trying to off road as much as possible, local Knowledge would have been a great help, i should have asked.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
