Corona stuck in beautiful Portugal

Its now 6 weeks that I am stuck in southern Portugal, the Algarve and not been able to return to northern Italy, the Friuli area where I live and ride. I was on a guided motorcycle tour in Andalucia (as a guide) mid March with my GS 1200 and had planned to go to Morocco for 10 days after then take the ferry feom Tanger to Genova.

Then the virus came, the tour was changed to lesser restricted Portugal and here I am.

The restricrions in Portugal are not to hard mostly. Only during Easter and now May 1st we are not supposed to leave our municipio called Conselho.

I am stuck in a beautiful village called Casais near Monchique. Faro is 60km to the east, Portimao 20km to the south and Sagres 40km to the west. When walking the hills I can see the whole coastline.

About once or twice a week I go shopping and here the boxes of my GS pay off once more. The I drive my groceries through the country side.

As I explored most of the Algarve in the past weeks I started to venture into the Alentejo, the next state or region north of tje Algarve.

I must hav put on some 2800 km in tje last weeks, 4 days ago I did a day trip of 550 km and two days ago of 450 km.

The roads are empty, the landscape georgeous and green. And colorful due to all the flowers blooming. Spring is awesome around here.

The arras that stand out are the west coast due to little developement, raw cliffs and hidden gem beaches. The area along the Spanish border are particular pictureque as dozens of fortifications and castles dot the landscape.

The cops let me be, the weather is getting better and gasoline is cheap. Almost every larger village has a grocery store that is open.

When I can get back home ?. Dunno. I am trying to hitch a ride with my bike on a large Iveco pickup loader to southern France and then on to northern Italy on May 9th.

We'll see how that goes. Stay safe out there and healthy. Enjoy life to the fullest. Images are on instagram #knorkemopete

OK to drive

Are you free to drive as you want ?
No restrictions for driving around ?

=
I had planned to be in Algarve soon.
But the flight is cancelled.
So I won't get there.

(My bike is already in Albufeira.)

Easter weekend and May 1st weekend we are restricted to our municipio. Other days I was able to do full day tours no problems. Gas stations, supermarkets and farmacies are open. Monday they start open small buiz up to 200m2. Hotels, restaurants and beaches remain closed. Driving around no problem.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
