David Knight in Turkey

Now Gordon the goose had good reason to keep a low profile down on the beach

because today was the day of the race. Or more specifically the last day of the Turkish round of the Turkish leg of the FIM Enduro World Championship

3TL for two including parking got you into the venue. Hakan from Dalyan was there promoting his new venture. A bike museum containing 50 classic bikes alongside a hotel and accommodation. He brought along two of his stock

and let the kids have a go

Hakan plans to open next January. Should be a good day out

On the MX course there was plenty of this

On the enduro course this kind of nonsense was going on

Mehmet managed to save one of the competitors from a trip in the blood wagon by reaching out a helping hand

The PA system wasn't too shabby

Neither were some of the "officials"

Telly coverage was all over the place

Strolling past the KTM tent I spotted a fellow Brit. David Knight, offroad god and all round good egg. David won the Enduro 3 Class World Championships in 2005 and 2006 and goodness knows how many other world champioships. He was here to do battle in this years champioship here in Turkey. The first time an FIM Enduro championship has been held here.

..................David was keen to pick up some tips, what with this being his first time in Turkey an all. I suggested wearing a daft hat to keep the sun from frying the brain cells. I don't think that was what he wanted to hear

Anyway, it seems that he took my advice 'cos here he is at the start line to the Enduro course with his big daft hat

Oh, oh! I think he's spotted me

His mum had come over to support him. I think that's her on the left

Anyway, here's the big guy in action

He romped it, winning the World Championship before the competition has even ended.

Well, I'm all beside myself. Meeting RTW Doug and David Knight in the space of just over a week. Better go for a lie down until the excitement wears off

Cheers,

Dickyb

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
