Algeciras (Spain) to Tangier crossing

Has anyone ever take their bike over to Morocco at this crossing point? Can anyone give me advice on whether we need to book the ferry in advance and how easy it is to get insurance to cover a trip like this?

Thanks

I did the crossing from Tanger to Spain.
No problems at all, and the tickets was bougth same day. If you want a "slower" start to Marocco, take the ferry to Ceuta instead. No so much huzzlers etc... It also goes from Algeciras and uses approx the same time. The insurance.... here in Norway all insurances (green cards) are valid for Europe and all the Mediterranen countries.... Morocco is a Mediterrannen country. I didnt need any extra coverage. Maybe its the same in your country.
Good luck.

Beware of theft and ripoffs on the Spanish coast. Algeciras is particularly bad. Don't believe people telling you hard luck stories to get money out of you.

If you already have a green card check that Maroc is not crossed out. If you still need to get one ask whather it's covered, and if not, how much extra it costs. It may be cheaper to buy third party cover at the border. I have read around here that some Brit insurers know how to charge! (We are assuming here that your question was about third party cover in the first place...)

Also make sure you have health insurance that covers major personal desasters and that biking is not excluded!

Thanks for your tips. We're not planning on going until September, but I have made a note of all your advice.

I did Algerciras to Cueta last September. When you get to Algerciras go through what appears to be a set of barriers, they will open them for you and buy your tickets there. I had to get a green card from my insurance company but you can get it at customs in morroco. Before you get to the border drug addicts will try and get money of you by making you think they are helping you with the custom forms, they should be ignored, ride into the custom point get of your bike and wait for a morrocon tourist official to help you, he should have ID it will cost you a few Euro's. but well worth the expense. make sure you have all your documents. My tourist official then got on the bike and took me to the nearest town where they tried to get me to buy 900 euro's worth of carpets. from there i rode to Tangers and camped there in the only campsite, very secure and really cheap.
