Hi, We roade from Newcastle, NSW down to S.A. and up the middle to Darwin where we shipped our bikes to Singapore. Then we did the Sing, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia circut. That was in 2000 and you could get into Vietnam then.Dont think you can now.
You can not go to Burma with your own bike.
It is not that diffcult to air freight from Bangkok to Katmandu. It really is the only option there. We then rode Nepal, India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece, Italy and France. Then back to Genoa in Italy where we shipped the bikes back to Sydney. We took 18 months to do this trip and are now in the planning stages of a trip that will take us back to India and europe using roads we didnt use last time. Waiting to sell our house and buy a cheaper one to finance our wanderings.
You need a Carnet. I read everywhere that you dont need a carnet for Turkey, but not only did we need one, on leaving Turkey we were held over and fined a lot of money as the customs men said that our carnets had run out. They would not recognise the extensions on our carnets that we had paid lots of money for.Perhaps that was because we had Australian registered bikes. Or perhaps it was our turn to be 'got at' by crook customs officers.
