Any good info on "Off Road" routes in Spain & Trans Portugal???
Going over to France and then down into Pyrenees West across into Spain and then looking to do the Trans Portugal top to bottom off-road route.

In all around a 2 week trip

Any one have and routes to upload on Garmin GPS?

Maybe someone has this route on GPS or more detailed map?

Got Trans Portugal route sorted now but if anyone has any more great off road routes starting from South France near Pyrenees then into basque country before we run down to the Trans Portugal route that would be great

And also for run back up in Spain heading to France

Hi Wesley, have a look at this track from wikiloc connecting the Basque Country and the north of Portugal, it may help:

Can you advise if you think its ok to do this route in 3 weeks time regarding snow in the area.

Also any more info on good routes in Spain would be great if you have some more.

You need 1 week for the Transportugal and another week is needed if you want to go over the Pyrenees from coast to coast. Add 3 more days for connecting the Basque Country and Portugal.

Snow may be a problem in the highest passes of the Pyrenees until late spring. This pic was taken by the end of May 2010.



Next year in April I repeated the same route but couldn't cross at this point, so you get the idea. Of course you can skip those passes but then you will be losing the nicest part of the trip.

I spent a week riding (On Road) all through the Pyrennes years ago. Stayed two nights way out in the country outside Andorra. They spoke Catalan ... so hard to communicate. I think I was in Basque country ... and didn't know it!


From the road I constantly saw guys riding Trials bikes on the trails. The trail systems looked great. I asked around, was told there are several rental outfits renting Trials and dirt bikes in the area, lessons, guiding and such. I spotted one place riding by, but did not stop.

Andorra is a BIG bike place. Dozens of gear shops in town ... all in a row, half price of UK.
Tires and parts too. (I bought a jacket and new tire there)

I'd bet those Moto rental guys would know every ridable trail in the area. Might even provide guiding services or have GPS routes or maps. Worth an ask around if you're in the area. It's beautiful country. Dramatic.

I rode the Pyrennes (paved) end to end ... twice. Great fun, all on the little roads. But if I was on the right bike, would have loved to try some of the trails. There was still snow at higher elevations in late March. I'm sure it varies year to year. I was riding Triumph Tiger 900.

There's the smugglers trail near Sort in the Pyrennese. There's a few more around there too and Sort is a nice place to stop over for a night or two. Can even do some white water rafting.

Did you get a GPS link for the trans Portugal ride? Fancy doing that myself sometime
