Central France to Balkans and Greece

Hello all.I'm leaving in 6 weeks ish on a meandering road trip through the Balkans to Greece, I don't have any time constraints and will be sleeping mostly outdoors, mainly because I like my privacy!

Any advice, tips, must sees or contacts very greatfully received, the goal of the trip is to learn and discover....thanks in advance.

Chris

Good luck Chris, and I hope you have a good time. As I see you are new to HU with one posting, you would do well to explore the HU Communities page, which might be useful for contacts as you go along your route. Only suggestion I can make is take your time!. It is often very tempting to put lots of miles under the belt at the first opportunity, but you miss so much on the way, also if you are spending most of your time ''under the stars'' ( in a tent?) it's best not to go too far in the first hit in case you find you've left something important behind, - like tent poles ( I know someone who did and had travelled all the way from to Geneva to SW France in one hit before he found out!).

Thanks Pongo, I've been reading the mine of information here, it's very impressive, mile crunching isn't important to me...too stressful!

Hi,
for me it is a bit too early for a tent. Be prepared and make some backup plan. Have a nice trip.

Chris you will love it, loads of places and things to see, also some nice routes getting to these places.
I did a trip to the Balkans at the end of 2015. If you have time, have a look at my RR, the link is in my signature block at the bottom of this. If you have any specific questions ask on here or on my RR. Also most of the places I went to are on the 'new Destinations' page
The map shows my rough route for the beginning of my trip, i then came back up north through Serbia, Hungary, Czech Republic and Germany.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Wayne, looks like you had a blast, your blog is great! My adventure is a small one compared to many trips I've read about on HU but it'll be good to get out and get rid of the cabin fever!

It will be cold that time of year in the balkans but have done it twice 2x 3 month trips with my kids camping,All I would say is make your way to where you are going to be camping as it is no all ways easy to find some where. But if you do need to stay in a hotel you will find some in very suprising place's they are normaly basic but reflect the price. And mot of them you can get something nice to eat.Have fun the Balkans and Greece are great places to travel.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
