Doing India in 3-5 months
Hi all, wondering if anyone has come across a good primer for moto-touring India. My friend tells me we can buy Royal Enfields for relatively cheap in India. I'd love to do a tour from the south to the north of the country, go over the himalayas and into nepal.
Looking for some basic information to kick off my research. Any good places or threads to look for this? I did some basic searching on the forums already ...
Thanks!

INDIA - Sab Kuch Milega
Hi Artia .
'Sab Kuch Milega' is a popular Hindu saying. It means 'You'll get anything you wish for'.
I’ve been riding at India for 6 month. at the north and later on I came back for 2 more month to the south. you can get a royal enfild 350 bullet in good shape for around 500$. India is very chip and a great place to travel by motorcycle. people are kind and everywhere you will find mechanical which can help you in any need. many travelers buy and travel by enfild. the country is huge there’s a lot to see you will need to chose the most interesting places for you. i would offer you to check out himachal pradesh region. (north) epic landscapes. Manali, Vashisht, don’t miss spiti and kinor . the places you will see....

Sounds like big fun! When we got to India last year we went directly up to Ladakh & while spending a month up there we just used a big map & a pen to strategize the general route. It ended up changing as we spent a month in Nepal before going back into India but it was very helpful to have that big picture with all of the general places we wanted to visit. LP (maddening as it is) & wikitravel can give you a start on ideas. You can take climate into account too, many mountain passes close when the snows come. As the pp said the country is huge but the roads can be terrible and/or slow. Big km days are very rare...for favorite riding areas we loved everything in the mountains. Kashmir, Ladakh, Sikkim, Meghalaya...but India also has such rich cultural sites and those are in every region. Hampi was our favorite. Good luck & happy researching!
