Gas prices in TURKEY
After the recent rise gas prices are way over 3USD / litre. As far as know the price is lower in Greece even withh the collapsed economy. Take the gas prices into consideration whhile planning a route via Turkey. And the gas prices wil take the price of every other thing such as food and accomodation.

In my opinion there are only two downsides while visiting Turkey:

a) extremely high gas prices, as you said (even now, your government is taking a big chunk of the cake in taxes), and

b) a sort of 10€ entry fee rule by the Ministry of Tourism. Anywhere you go, no matter the degree of conservation, the existence (or not) of a visitor's center, etc, it will cost 10€ (some worth more than that, others do not justify it).

For all the rest, you just can fall in love with the beautiful and welcoming people/country.

... and be carefully with your speed
because in Turkey bikes have a lower speed limit than cars !!

I guess I never knew that because I drove cars there... Or maybe because 80 km/h was already the top speed of our Renault 4 and Renault 5???

It's 100km/h. I got busted yesterday, doing 116km/h. I said all the signs say 120, but that's my ignorance I guess.

And yes, fuel is very expensive, 4.39TL per litre. Current exchange rate to USD is approx 2:1 and about 2.25:1 for Euros.

Thanks for the info on the speed limit.
4.69TL per litre = £1.51 per litre which is about 10p per litre more expensive that here in the UK. Although I wonder how much you would save with a 100km/hr speed limit? hmmm....

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
