important questions about travelling

Hi at all,
we are a couple from Germany who plans their trip around the world for next year... but we need your trip experience...

First we need to know, if it is possible (and save?) to get through Georgia to Russia? Is there still violence in the Caucasus region or is it know save for traveling by motorbike?

And second, does anybody know a good company (with an trustable guide) for our journey through China? Is this guide always with you? And how is he travelling?

kind regards from Germany and thank you for all your help
Marcel and Greta

I crossed that border few years ago, without any problem.
Roughly a month ago there was landslide and road was blocked, but now there should be temporary track available.

When you know the schedule of your China part, I would recommend you to try to join others for this crossing. It is really expensive. I am sure others will give recommendations for the companies, but the guide will be all the way with you and he/she needs a car and a driver...

I looked at your worldmap and idea, but you might want to reconsider Indonesia... as for I know you can't take the boat anymore from Malaysia to Indonesia with a bike...

Hi,

thanks for your reconsider.
today I get an answer from Cakra Enterprise.
Maybe it could help other travellers:

Dear Marce,

Yes, you can ship your bikes by using our boat.

We also crossed from Georgia to Russia a couple years ago. Beautiful area and no problems, highly recommend it.

Mr Lim is great, you send the bike on the boat then you fly to pick it up. Indonesia is fantastic!

Well, that's great news! As last year everybody suggested that it couldn't be done anymore!
Thank you both for the update!

You can definitely take your bike from Malaysia to Indonesia or visa versa with Mr Lim. 600RM in Malaysia then 1,000,000 rupee in Indo (i think?) All very professional and straightforward.
People have also sent there bikes from Dumai to Port Klang.

hi thewaytodawn, I worked for a China adventure tour company who focus on riding/driving tour in China. hope i can help.

For China part, like the other friends on above said, It's not cheap for solo rider ride in China. the cost of permit, guide and supporting car is necessary, and solo rider need to afford that on own.

So the normal way are:
1. to make a group to share the cost.
for this item, like i said before, maybe this is a good idea: to mix the self-driving group and riding group, then the guest's vehicle also can be the supporting car to save the cost.

Still need to note the points:
a. in principle, the motorbike cannot riding on the expressway in China. and the whole group need to follow a fixed route, therefore the vehicle should follow the motorcycle to explore the normal way(national road, county road etc.)

for example: if you would make a group driving from Mongolia to Laos, then you should take the normal way, there should note the driving hours each day for cars.
but if you make a group go through the Xinjiang-Tibet, not too much problems cause it's all the normal way in the highland.

b. Even if you make a group respective into "car" and "motorbike" group, you'd better to choose the similar type of "vehicles", like 4x4, sedan, big campervan etc. different vehicle may require different road conditions.

2. to join into a big group, i recommend a UK company before: Globebusters.com | Home, they do the global riding tour (from Europe to China then Southeast Asia, even then ship to AU).

Hope these info make sense for you. welcome to write to me for learning more specific information refers to China at abby.zhang@navo-tour.com

Cheers~

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
