London to Cape Town...down the West Side of the big A! Help!

Hi – and firstly apologies if this type of thread request has been made before…sure it must have been a number of times previously. But could really do with some help as just starting our planning!

In Autumn 2016 looking to bike from London to Cape Town with a buddy and with an Agri-Business/Fresh Produce twist. What does that mean I hear you shout?!

Well we both work in the Ag/Fresh Produce sectors and we are looking to visit a number of farms and fresh produce growers all of the way down through France, Spain, Morocco, Senegal, Ghana, South Africa etc etc…to report/film/meet/interview all of those farmers and growers to “educate” our network (and hopefully a lot more besides) how great agricultural and fresh produce product is grown in those countries, the great people behind them and how it is brought back to the likes of the UK/EU ready for us and our kids to eat and enjoy. We have already got a couple of really interesting businesses lined up to see in the likes of Senegal (sweet corn) and Ghana (prepared fruit and tropical juice which are then exported back to be sold in the likes of Sainsbury’s in the UK). We will have a “live” website and as much as we can will upload of the interesting filming and interviews on-going so our “network” can see our progress and the farms/growers/people we meet on route. And post the trip we will condense all of the best bits as well for general circulation to hopefully get more people to eat more great products from the countries we have seen and visited.

What would be a proposed route to go from London to Cape Town down the Western side of Africa? Yes there is a lot of info out there but it is a moving “beast” at the best of times. What is the current view today of the forum re the best route with the least issues? I want to get an initial route laid out (as much as possible) so we can then contact the farms/growers based on that preferred route…even if it is but in “pencil” as we can adapt it at a later stage of course…but just keen to hear from the forum as do what you good folk would suggest!

And any other thoughts or comments suggestions on what we are looking to do and to achieve would be gratefully received as well!

Many thanks.

MAX

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
