Long weekend in the Pyrenees in October

Work is sending me to Barcelona, and I am taking an extended weekend for myself. Renting a motorcycle from Friday to Monday, and want to go ride in the mountains. Currently looking at a CB500X for reasonable money, and bringing my own gear.

How are the Pyrenees in early-mid October? Can I still reasonably expect them to be open and rideable? (Not bothered by temps so much, I live in North Europe and ride whenever the snow is not on the ground.)

Suggestions for a good route over three days, starting and ending in Barcelona? Flight back is late afternoon/early evening on Monday, so I am looking to spend Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights outside of the city with its hotel prices.

take a look on google maps for Sort. Sort isnt that far, maybe a base around there. Then there are some loops you can do. I was in Arties and Veihla a month ago. Some nice routes/loops you can do. Not sure of teh weather but should be a bit cooler wchich will be nicer.

Pyrenees

Hi,
this is a much longer route.

But ride up to it from Barcelona and you could take the part the the time allows.

And the route passes Sort. The town that was mentioned in the other response. So the two ideas seams similar

See my post from yesterday, I went up through Sort, and camped in Espot. For on-road riding it's a great area for sure, but that can be said of a lot of roads around Catalunya. Some of the trails are closed in October for the winter, but I'm guessing a rental CB500 is going to have road tyres on anyway.

In Mid-October the Med is still warm enough to swim in too, BTW, we go down to the beach a lot October through to April. It's a good time to go hiking around Montserrat as well.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
