Motos Against Malaria
All of us worldwide riders and travellers can help save the lives of thousands of people throughout the world, in the fight against malaria. If we all band together and gather support from colleagues, friends and family — we have the ability to raise thousands of dollars to buy & distribute moquito bed nets to prevent this disease that claims millions of lives every year. Please feel free to check out this link and the amazing work the the Against Malaria Foundation is doing.
Ride and travel with a purpose...we are a great community — together we CAN make a difference.

Maybe another idea?
Hey guys,
I think it is great what your trying to achieve here. But maybe it would be a better idea to give malaria drugs or something in the like. I work in Western Tanzania and if you gave out these nets they will be in the market for sale before you got out of the village! That is what happens with all the clothes that are donated here. They are sold to the people by the people. Maybe a lot of Africa is different from here but it is a totally different mind set here.
I do wish you the best of luck.
Cheers
Ivan

Hi Ivan,
Thanks for your reply, advice and honesty. Our plan is to not only deliver the nets personally and show parents and their children how to use them, but also go to the most remote of villages. Ones that regular transportation doesn't frequent. We won't simply be dropping off a box in the middle of town. We will spend time with these families. As you know, on motorcycles it is possible to access these places, perhaps not easily, but it will be worth it.
We also want to do some research into treatments for malaria and perhaps distribute this too.
Again, thanks for your insight and let's hope we find the people who the nets will benefit and not those who will sell them instead.
Best wishes with your work in Tanzania!
Peace,
Christina & Todd

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
