I never have rented a bike in the US but I have heard of Eagle Rider.
They have many brands of bikes and locations.
Mid April is still on the edge of winter in most of the US.
You should try to stay in the South East or the South West.

Harley rentals are relatively common throughout the USA. Just google "motorcycle rental USA" and you'll come up with a variety of options. I rented a Harley Road King in Reno and I've found many others online that rent in many of the major cities throughout the US.

Your timing (April) pretty much means staying in the south unless you like cold weather and the chance of snow at higher elevations ...of which there are many throughout the western USA and Canada.

I can recommend AZride in Phoenix. It's a husband and wife outfit and they looked after me when I hired a DR650 from them a couple of years ago.

Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Rentals & Motorcycle Tours - Honda
Eagle Rider's hub is Chicago and LA ,, about the only company, where you can drive one way and drop it off. There is a drop off charge though.
Also check Harley Davidson USA home page for the rental program on their web.
Rentals in Florida and other areas bit shaky. From experience of our club members,, who goes to states every year,,,for Sturgis and Daytona. Once I almost got ripped off on my 1200 dollar deposit.

Chicago - LA on old Route 66 is a kicker I hear.
Have fun folks,, must be nice to do father and son thing.
I am doing LA to New York in April, then to Germany straight cross Russia and back to Korea. Taking my 2006 FLHRI

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
