Stavanger - Lofoten
Hi Frank,
NightAlp

You've picked many of the good roads.
In particular, you are right to go north on Rv 17, the coastal road from
Trondheim to Bodo.
There is an alternative/ option to consider:
http://tinyurl.com/kl8bzj7
(GoogleMaps: Trondheim-> Brønnøysund)
i.e., instead of Rv 17 all the way, go north E6 to Rv 76, then west into Bronnoysund, and continue north on Rv 17 to Bodo.
The Rv 76 is an alternative VERY BEAUTIFUL road.
enjoy

Your route seems mostly fine to me. Any route you take - you will miss another. But I have a few suggestions:
Why dont you start off from Stavanger by taking the Ferry in of the Lysefjorden? The Ferry trip is spectacular - even with my north-Norwegian eyes.....
And after that I recommend this route:
From Lysebotn up a fantasic winding road to R45 over another Nice route the moutain area called Suleskardveien. Then turn left at Valle. Then R37 + R36 and R40 to Geilo and Gol. Then R7 to Valdres and then R51 over another fantastic mountain area called Valdresflya. Turn left when you reach the valley on the other side of the mountain. Then R15 and R63 and you will Reach Geiranger and later Trollstigen - two places you cannot miss.
Sorry I tried to make a route map but wasnt able to make a link to it.....

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
