Hý,
Get ýn touch wýth one of the couple of tour operators ýn Dushanbe (one ýs called the great game company I belýeve) or go to www.stantours.com, based ýn Almata. They can arrange ýt over the ýnternet. Takes some týme so do ýt well ýn advance. That way you can travel from the North. I dýd ýt wýthout the permýt but wýll not do that agaýn. Too many headaches and brýbes..

Yes, you still need the GBAO permit. As MartijnP says, you can get it from Stantours in a few days. They should be able to email a copy of it to you, but its best to have the original if you can. I believe the cost is about $35 per person.

Thanks for making contact,
There are a lot of indications that theh permits coudl be abandoned next
year. In any case we can normally do the permits within 10-14 days for USD
40 per person, payment & copies can be send by e-mail,
Stay in touch for an update on teh situation in spring and do let us know if
you may need assistance elsewhere in our hemisphere!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
