Places to see in Britanny and Normandy (France)

Hi all,

I'll be on the road in August (last week) through Britanny and Normandy( from South to North), so any suggestion is welcome ( easy/medium off-road too).

Thanks in advance

You know it'll be packed with British tourists!

Beyond that (south to north)
Carnac has some impressive standing stones (literally miles of them). Concarneau is a pretty little fishing town with a fortified old town on an island in the bay.
The coast of Brittany is good, varied but high season caveat applies.
Inland plenty on small prehistoric monuments.
Mont st michel is obvious but to avoid the crowds go to the german ossuary about 5miles south-east - best view of m-s-m from the top (sorry not sure of exact location without looking at Michelin map).
The other side of cotentin peninsula loads of D-Day landing stuff -Arromanches has the main museum, Colleville-sur-Mer for the US cemetery.

Probably best advice is get a decent map! Personally prefer Michelin one, more detail & tourist info than others, scenic routes marked in green.
Have a good trip!

Hi again ntvfrog,

Might Huisnes-sur-Mer be the location for the german ossuary?

You can see it here: Huisnes-sur-Mer, France to Mont St Michel - Google Maps

Thanks in advance.

Yes, that's the one. Just north of the village off the D75 on rue mont d'huisnes.
Built to replace cemeteries that were understandably not popular with tha French after the war. An interesting counterpoint to the rest of the WW2 history in the area

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
