You must be a ferry lover, big time!
OK. first ferry: Plymouth - Santander, second one: Marseille - Calvi, third one: Bastia - Livorno, fourth one: Ancona - Durres or Bari - Bar, Kotor or Dubrovnik.

All that messing about on ferries will take you days and days, and cost you a considerable amount.
The car journey from UK to Bulgaria is not too bad, and can be done in 3 days without too much hassle. It's about 1600 miles.
Get a night ferry with Norfolk Line, preferably on a friday night, from Dover to Dunkirk. The reason for going on a friday night is that you've then got all of saturday and sunday, reasonably quiet days, to get through Germany, where they sometimes have huge traffic jams.
The route we use is Ostende,Brussels,Koln,Frankfurt,Wurzburg,Regensbur g, Vienna. Motorway all the way and no tolls, as it is across Hungary too. Once you pass Vienna the traffic dies away and the journey becomes more pleasant.
If you cross the Danube via the car ferry at Calafat-Vidin, you are well placed for Sofia.
There are several motels along the route, charging about 40 euros per night.
The only bad bit is through Romania, where the roads are poor, but the scenery is interesting.
If I can be of any more help, for example routes through Romania, and overnight stopping places, contact me through our website.Camping Bulgaria at Sakar Hills

Have to second the overland route. Ferries will cost and are not quick!

Dover to Dunkirk is an option to get across the channel, I recently did Harwich to Hook of Holland as thats an overnighter, not crazy expensive, and puts you nicely on your way to the likes of Czech and then Bulgaria.

We went from there to Leipzig and on to Prague, no tolls fees for motorbikes so all free! Hook of Holland to Leipzig was a comfortable if somewhat dull day on the motorways.

From there you could strike out to Bulgaria whichever you choose - its all good riding and you will see more, pay less and take less time to do it.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
