Ride Planning Software?
Looking for a good ride/route planning software for a DOS (Windows 7) based computer. Planning a 3 week ride from the Mountain West to travel through at least 19 states to the Southeast area in U.S. and back. Want to stay off Interstates as much as possible. Am currently using a free program sponsored by a leading American-made Motorcycle company...and wondering if there's something better and more user friendly for a senior citizen. Thanks for your help in advance

The are a lot of route planing softwares out there.
Here.com which can also be used on the windows phone.
If you have a Garmin you can use Mapsource/Basecamp. Then transfer the routes to your device.
But even is you don't have a Garmin you could still use Mapsource/Basecamp and get free maps from OSM mapping and use direct from your laptop.
There are a lot of others, have look under the Navigation thread.
Whatever you decide to use you will have to play about with to get used to it

I recall seeing the one attributed to HD.
Such software is not the most popular subject matter within the HUBB but there are a few ideas about this in here:

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
