Dear brtleby, my name is Maurizio (Italy) I've riddene this summer (May-June) in Vietnam, doing the loop in the North and go and back Hanoi -Ho Chi Min City. 22 days for almost 6300 km ( 3.915 miles) with a little Yamaha Serow 230 cc that I rented in Hanoi from Flamingo Travel

Strictly speaking you've got to have your driver's license converted in vietnam's license, but every cop knows that no one tourist has it.
The police stoped me once on an highway forbidden to motorcycle. They cheked over luggage and document, but just the rental documents. That's all.
Remember that the travel agency doesn't supply any kind of insurance, so do it yourself.
Just travel slow.
The mountains are a paradise for the bikers

I don't know what to say.
If you did 6300km in 22 days in Vietnam, then all I can say is you didn't see jack nothing.
You must have been speeding all day,,,,,every day.

That is 3 times further than what we did in 22 days.

6300/22= 286 km/day

I've riddena just on paved route and normally around 7.30 I was ready to go.
During the day you can consider at least 6 driving hours, this mean an average of 47 km/h. Consider that normally I don't stop for long time to eat, and always was in little restaurant along the road.

Just on the way back to Hanoi I did a distance over 400 km.
This was my route

I've never driven more than 60/70 km of speed and just when the road was straight and jam free.



I've visited Dien Bien Phu, Meo Vac, Halong Bay and Huè.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
