RTW

I am planning to be the first Icelander to do the big trip. Every time i look to the maps i get really confuzed and don´t know were to go, expecially in the east. I go from europe to turkey and from there i just don´t know. What is the most memorable countryes to go and wich one to skip. I will go to Australia and NZ and there to america. or would it be better to go trough the bearing sea meaning that i will have to skip australia and NZ but then i will see more of alaska. what do you travellers think.

Please let me know your opinion

Greetings from Iceland

Hi Gassa,
Welcome aboard. I don't think that this site has many Icelanders on board.
Your question is a legitimate one, but not easy to answer. First a few questions: How much time do you have for your trip RTW, and how much money. If unlimited of each you have numerous choices. You can take to the beaten path from Turkey via Iran, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh (skip Myanmar), Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia (difficult), around Australia, then Japan, North America, South America, Africa, and up to Europe and Iceland. But you can also go the other way around, say via North America, Japan, Russia, China, Pakistan, India, etc. etc. There are many travel guides available, and also several motorcycle books on the subject. Look into the "Books" section of this website. There you will find (among others) four of my books and travelling around the world on a motorcycle. My full name is Werner Bausenhart. Start planning.
Happy riding!

thanks Werner.

I think 2 year should be the minimum time to do it. but if I don´t find good sponsors I´m in a big trouble. It also worries me to do it solo but reading topics here about that subject makes me more comfortable. I also hope that i´m a doer not dreamer, if you know what i mean. I intend to do it after few years 2006-2007 so I have good time planning it. Read, read, read is all I do these days. I will propably put few questions here next months so I´m just looking forward to work with you expirenced guys.

Greetings from Iceland

Gisli A.

sorry about the spelling/grammar:-)

Gisli,

no worries on the spelling/grammar - you wouldn't believe how bad my Icelandic is... well, maybe you would.

A recent count shows the HU website is over 10,000 pages!

You've got a lot of reading to do, so enjoy !

Hi Gisli,
You're in trouble! Better you save your money than count on sponsors. Now, if you were a woman in your late teens or early twenties, and looked like Brittney, or JLo, sponsors might come forward. But as it is...? Don't give up hope, though, perhaps Icelanders are not as sex obsessed as the rest of the world. Wishing you lots of good luck, Werner.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
