Ship from Oz to Durban then drive to UK
In 2010 as the first leg of RTW trip we intend to ship 4x4 from Perth to Durban and then in a roundabout way drive east coast route to Sudan, ship to Saudi Arabia then drive on to UK. Are there any major issues to do with this route particularly the Sudan/Egypt shipping part? Have read that it is possible has anyone done it recently?
I am looking at the above route as I understand that Egypt has issues re too many tourists, too much red tape, too many charges for overlanders, etc, etc. Have I heard right in this regard? What are peoples thoughts on the two route options?
What would be the best time of the year (thinking February) to arrive Durban to have a reasonable run with the weather heading up north (not to hot, not to wet, but just right). From what I have read we need to get to UK before end of October as camping grounds appear to close for the winter around this time. I have no experience with crossing from southern to northern hemisphere.
