I rode through cold wet weather to Salamanca, my hear did the trick.
No need for a heated vest.
Currently in Beja, Portugal after spending last night in Badajoz. Warm sun with a cool breeze.
Huelva tomorrow for 2 days then my ferry to Gran Canaria.

Excellent, thanks for the update. Please let us know about the ferry and your time in the Canaries

Well, I can advise against Huelva for any longer than you absolutely need.
Maybe it was where I booked, bit it was seedy and nasty.
Despite the underground parking for my bike, I didn't rest easy and sacrificed my second night there to escape to the hills of Portugal.
Currently in Mertola in the sun...so much better.
I'll use the old roads to get to the ferry tomorrow.
Using a Navigator II with maps from 2005 makes things so much more interesting. I'm engaging in some time travel.

I'm too late to recommend El Rocio and Doñana National Park to you.
Mérida, Plasencia and Trujillo spring to mind as historic old town that might be on your route north.
If you're near Trujillo it's worth a detour just to see the main square and statue of Pizarro.
Go n-eirí an bothar leat!

Well, I'm finally on the last leg of my journey home to Ireland.
The Canaries were as expected, some amazing roads and scenery, but not enough riding.
The challenge of getting home by a certain date was almost as enjoyable.
Varied weather, long days riding and unexpected adventures.
The rising sun outside Seville on my right and the wolf moon on my left as I headed north.
Finding a filling station and putting 30l in to fill up is what I call pretty damn empty.
4 hrs of freezing fog around Salamanca.
Cancelled ferries, almost missing ferries, Portsmouth to Fishguard in the remnants of storm Brendan.
Making a valuable contact for my next trip to Morocco......
It's not about the destination, it's all about the journey.
Can't wait for the next one.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
