One of the side things I like do here in Peru is to offer to buy the best Chinese bikes (they are getting better and better) for riders who want to ride SA in a budget way, change and reenforce a few things to prep them for trips...

This is a FREE service (which means you cover the purchase of the bike up front, costs of paperwork, prepping the bike, etc, but I make no profit on it). I do this so that more budget folks can experience this beautiful country of Peru (that has adopted me) ON A BIKE!

Advantages over going it on your own:

(1) You won't break down because I've already gone over and bettered certain things. I have many insights on prepping that Chinese bike that will save you ALOT of possible headaches (This is a foto of an on/off road 250cc model I recommend... but there are many others).



No worrying about the quality of the machine or waiting 2 weeks before you can start!

(2) You will already have a license plate, papers, and insurance (in my name!) to start your journey! The Peruvian police don't care who's name the bike is in (within Peru) as long as you have all the papers and insurance! No worrying about the quality of the machine or how to waste time waiting for paperwork!

You just go sign some papers with me here in Huanuco (2 hrs), then you take off and I send the new papers (the ones IN YOUR NAME! ) to you near the border of your choice! I live in the middle of Peru (Huanuco) so it's easy to ride for an enjoyable two weeks (or more) to any of the 7 border crossings....

(3) FREE route and trip advice AND the best maps (and/or GPS download) about ANYWHERE in Peru you want to go! I'm an American expat, Mechanical Engineer, and motorcycle mechanics teacher of 23 years. I've been living and riding in Peru since age 4 ..

(4) If you come back to Peru, I CAN "BUY THE BIKE BACK FROM YOU", by making then make it available to another budget rider....

YES, I will go over it with a fine tooth comb and make it just as good for the next guy/gal rider!



sooo.. It's a cheap way (buy new for $1,200 to $2,000 USD) to hit the ground riding and at the end of your (well advised) trip, and a way you can get the better part of your investment back!!

sounds really tempting to me! unfortunatly I was thinking of starting in Chile! But I am flexible and maybe could chance my plans :-)

I saw this and it certainly sounds like a generous offer. Right now I'm not really in a financial situation where I can take off to S.A. for any length of time, but I am very tempted!

I'm on my own UK registered bike in Peru and I agree it's a stunning country. However, when stopped by the police at their all too frequent checkpoints, their first request has been for my driving licence, followed by registration papers for the bike and SOAT (Insurance). If I've understood you correctly, the driving licence would be in a different name to the registration and SOAT.

That's a great idea, got me thinking now for when i come back from Europe and Russia next year. Am i right in saying that you can visit all the countries in SA on this deal or is it limited to a couple of them??
Can you also go to Belize on it?

Police don´t care if your driver´s licence is in a different name to the bike´s papers.
I´ve been stopped in this situation countless times with no problem at all.
The SOAT (insurance) relates to the bike not you.
You can also ride on an EU driving licence for 6 months after arrival in Peru.

If the police are determined to find an infraction it´s generally only so you pay for their lunch. 10 soles covers pretty much any (real or imagined) traffic offence.

Having bought several vehicles in Peru (with a work/residency visa) i would leap at the offer of the original poster.
You really don´t want to get involved with the paperwork, trust me.

Yes I can. If you get a Sumo Torque 250 or Advance Dakar 250, I will buy it from you at the end of your ride. Remember I need a month to order it in, get the paperwork and plate and bike prepped before you arrive so that you can just take off.

I read your post here as I am in the very early stages of planing our trip around SA. And I would be very interested in talking to you about the service you offer!

Although I live in Australia, I am a dual citizen having been born in Argentina. Would this make it easier for me buying a motorcycle in SA and crossing borders?
