Steve, can't say what late summer might be like but I made the decision to go up to Alaska/Prudhoe Bay in early summer. I got to Prudhoe Bay on June 9th 2006 from Southern California. My thinking was that I might run into a bit of bad weather but that I might NOT run into lots of mosquitoes and motorhomes. :=) Not much bad weather at all although it was raining and snowing on the Haul Road on the way up but dry and nice on the way down. Great trip. Whatever time you decide on, you will enjoy it I am sure.

Historically, there is more rainfall in late summer.

Prudhoe bay
I got to Prudhoe bay on July 4 2005. I had been rained on and snowed on 3 times that day. The snow piled up on the road going over Antigun pass and when I got to Deadhorse the lake was still frozen over. It rained on the way up and on the way back the next day. When it was not raining it would dry up in no time and was just beautiful so I think it was just the luck of the draw. It is a fun trip and watch out for the road when it is raining as it is nasty. Larry

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
