UK to India - visas for Iran, etc
Hi folks
I'm heading East next year - and would like to set-off in April and spend a bit of time in Eastern Europe, and Turkey. If everything goes to plan (which it NEVER does) I'm hoping to keep on going through Iran and Pakistan and then onto India.
I'm wondering what to do about the visas, especially for Iran, as I think it will have expired by the time I get to the Iranian border - sometime in September (I read somewhere that the visa is only valid for 3 months from issue date).
Should I try my luck and pick visas up in Turkey or is it better to get all the visas sorted out before I set-off and somehow renew them once I get to the border.
Or will I have to set-off from the UK in June?
Any comments/suggestions?

Hi Fuzzy,
Get Pakistan visa before leaving home. It's good for 6 months. Get Iranian visa in Ankara. You cannot get an expired Iranian visa renewed. You have to restart the whole process. So may as well do it in Ankara. Ask for a 7-day transit visa. Renewing this one in Iran is no problem.

So when does the 3 month period start with the Iran visa? Does it begin when you pick up the visa, or does it begin when you are approved for the visa? And much time is given to pick it up once it is approved?
I will be doing a very similar trip as Fuzzy Duck next year through Asia...

Hi guys
Thanks for the information. It seems Pakistan needs doing before I go and collect Iran in Turkey.
But what about India - collect in Pakistan, or is it similar to the Pakistan visa and is best to get before leaving home.
Thanks Werner and Nobby for the tips.
David, maybe we could hook-up for the Iranian leg of this trip - I don't fancy doing this bit on my own... have you got any dates fixed yet?

Indian tourist visas give you six months in the country, but they start from the day they're issued, so if you take three months to reach India, you'll only have three months left. Probably best to get it in Pakistan if you want to maximise your time in India. Don't forget you can get a new visa in Kathmandu if you want more time in India (it's only one day's ride from the border to Kathmandu).
