UK to India, via the Stans.

Hello,

Due to the current Iran situation my planned trip to India looks like having to change. All my focus has been on the traditional Europe, Iran, Pakistan, India route.

Looking to the north, and going off other threads, a route through Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan and then into India appears to be the way to go.

As I've got a limited amount of time available to me, how realistic is two months to do this? Not ideal I know.

All advice welcome and appreciated, no matter how critical.

Thank you.

Certainly am interested Fern but my plans were to leave a month or so before you, sometime in March I thought, so it may not work out. If I do choose this route over the Iran one I'd probably postpone leaving for a bit to give things a chance to warm up.

Is there a set price for a guide for China do you know? Is it a per day fee or per week or per trip?

Following on from that how long would it take to ride from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan? As I said, all my focus has been on going through Iran so this is all unknown territory for me.

There is no set/tariff for the chinese section but you are looking at about 800-900 GBP. This obviously goes down the more people you have.

I think that they say you should allow about 90 days fro the permits to be arranged etc.

Given the Iran situation it looks like a hell of a lot of people will be using the Kashgar-KKH route so you should be able to find people to split it with.

Hi Fern,
This could be also my plan (still need to agree with my company), but most probable starting time is May.
I could also join to share guide costs if Iran situation starts to look bad.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
