UK to The Gambia
Folks, will be heading from Coleford to The Gambia around middle November on the bike and am asking which is the best way to go.
Across to France and down?
Across to Spain and Down?
Or is there a better way?
What will the weather be like at that time of the year?
Cheers

UK to The Gambia
Take Speed ferries to boulounge le sur, then straight down to tarifaya. ferry to Tangier.
Head south, follow the sun..
Cheapest fuel at Laayoune.
Hit Mauritania, stay overnight in Noudibou, then down Motorway to Nouchchok.
Spelt wrong..??
Then to Senegal, hassle at ferry border.
Straight down to The Gambia.
Somebody recently did it in 55 hours driving..

Or...
-Ferry from Algeciras to either Tangier or Ceuta.
-Quickest way through Morocco is coastal route but there is so much to explore there.
-You can get visa for Mauritania at consulate in Rabat.
-Just before the Morocco Mauritanian border there is a service station and you can kip there (it saves riding down to Nouadibhou and back). Try to avoid crossing the border during 1200 - 1500 (lunch hour and it is closed).
-Good tarmac road down to Nouakchott but no fuel so take it with you - 500 ks.
-Road to Rosso ok but rough in patches.
-I'd avoid Rosso - the pits and non stop hustle. On the outskirts of Rosso opposite an insurance office there is a piste heading west which will take you to Djama - a much better crossing.
-No problems at the Senegal/Gambia border.
Have fun.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
