Visiting Scotland
Hello,
I am thinking of hiring a motor home for the first time and for a week to visit scotland around August.
Can you recommend good routes, places to stay during this time, etc
We live in London and we have a six and a seven year old.
Many thanks

I'm assuming you will be flying up and hiring in Scotland (that would be your best option given your timescale) IMO.
If you hire near Glasgow you could be on the banks of Loch Lomond a couple of hours later. Then, head off to Eilean Donan Castle near the village of Dornie, and you will not be disappointed with the route. You could then head towards Edinburgh and drop the Motorhome off there, and fly back.
The scenery is much nicer on the west coast. But with that comes unpredictable weather and midges in the summer.

Once you hit aviemore kinda area the lecht road past the ski centre is very nice way to head over to the east coast, theres also several nice glens around the ballater, aboyne/banchory area. Glenntanar and forest of birse have nice picnic stops on their little rivers.
There is plenty of nice castles on the east coast and beaches,
dunnottar castle in stonehaven, slaines castle at crudenbay are pretty famous ruins.
The highland wildlife park [kincraig park] is good fun and they have gone a bit nuts in the last few years and added some very un scottish animals such as polar bears and tigers. The huntly falconry centre is also a good place but a bit small.
Pitlochery in perthshire is nice and there should still be salmon running the ladder at that time[they have a tunnel with glass side you can watch them swim past]. Bridge of feuch on deeside is another nice place to stop and watch the salmon jump up the falls.
Royal deeside, glen muick and the balmoral area are all really nice with loads of wild furry beasties to see.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
