Where would you drive to the UK from?
OK - slightly less cryptically, we are in Australia, having driven here (well to India and have shipped from there), so have the car here. I am now working in Oz, and will be here for at least year to 18 months (and maybe more). We will then eventually have to ship the car home ( or somewhere else). There is an evens chance we will return to the UK then.
So we are thinking, instead of shipping directly to the UK - why not ship to 'X' and drive home from there?
Now, for the added extra. Jenny is pregnant, and so we will be driving with a yougun, maybe as young as 1. This will mean we won't be necessarily looking for an extra adventure, just the fun of being on the road and seeing a bit more of the world.
Also we don't want to repeat much of our route. Which was UK - eastern Europe, Turkey, Iran, Stans, China, Pakistan, Iindia.
Any ideas? My daydream glands are working overtime once more

adventure or not
If you have time, money and are feeling a little adventurous how about shipping to Cape Town and driving up through Africa a fairly well trodden route. If this seems a bit much, ship to Greece and drive up through the Balkans, central Europe, I presume you have a UK registered vehicle so this should present no problems with paperwork.

Thanks Mark.
I think we have decided to follow your 2nd option, with one change - we will ship to Istanbul and then do a circle of Turkey (we loved it and only stayed 3 weeks last time, and always said we'd have to come back and do the bits we missed), a bit of Georgia (everyone one the road raved about Georgia) - then Greece and somehow home from there.
All very easy, minimal paperwork.
But task one is to find out - what the hell this children thing is all about!!!!!!!

Congratulations!
Bear in mind that children under five do not handle third world or tropical environments well e.g. malaria in such young 'uns is really, really bad news.
My advice is plan accordingly.
Good luck.

Thanks Doc
We will certainly be taking it easier with the young'un in tow. We're not really the sort to feel that we can live like we did before with a baby, and really want to take it easy.
For this trip it really will be comforts come first

In summer another nice option would be shipping to Moscow, then St. Petersburg, after that either: a) Helsinki, Nordkapp, Oslo/Stockholm, etc or b) Baltics, Poland, etc. If you haven't been to that area, plenty of nice things to see, white nights, nature, history etc and suitable with a little one I'd imagine.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
