Thailand - Cool Oasis In Bangkok
FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH - Bangkok
A "Cosmic Jungle Pit Stop" is what I titled a published magazine article (ON THE LEVEL) about Smiths Motors Company. To lift some words from the 1967 Buffalo Springfield song, I'll add, "There's something happening here, what it is ain't exactly clear...."
After six motorcycle rides around the world, often stopping to wander through motorcycle museums, I can say SMITHS ain't exactly a museum, what it is isn't clear cut.
Cosmic, to me, in that I saw mounted on the wall a special German hand made BMW gas tank that I had purchased from a friend in Montana, USA, after which I sold it to a Thai fellow in New York. And there it was, mounted on the wall in SMITHS.
While thumbing through a box of vinyl LP records (Smiths sells and buys LPs) I saw one from a music group I had met in 1967, Buffalo Springfield. Their biggest hit song was titled FOR WHAT'S IT'S WORTH.
Interesting place, Smiths in Bangkok ("Smitty," the owner, in Photo #1). I went there once, and later thought, "Pretty cool business/museum/cafe/Vintage Club home," worth another stop when passing through the steaming hot urban concrete jungle of Bangkok.
Stop in, at least buy a T-shirt in the sales office (photo #2) or cup of coffee and later tell me it ain't worth what it is to a motorhead, BMW or otherwise unclear.
