17" tires in lower Central or northern South America

I know this question has been asked before but for the life of me I'm having a hard time with the search feature.

Currently in Costa Rica riding a 2010 DR650 that will be in need of both front and rear tires in the near future.

Any suggestions on sources for these tires in lower Central or northern South America would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks .... Greg

Colombia

You'll find them easy enough in Colombia. Any reasonable size town will have them - Pirelli MT60/Metz Sahara/Tourance etc

I bought mine in Bucaramanga. They didn't have what I wanted on the shelf so I asked. A phone call was made and I was asked to wait. 10 mins later a guy appeared with a pair of tyres on the back of a bike. Couldn't be easier.

DR650's are officially imported by Suzuki Colombia so anything else you need is easy to find to. And all for the right price

Hey Sprint, sorry for trying to hijack your posting but how's your trip going?

Edited: Apparently tires can be had in Panama City as well.

Are you willing?

If you are willing to use a more knarley (sp?) tire, then you will have no problem. Pirrelli (made in Brazil) makes a great M21 for 17". It is an enduro tire that looks like a knobby, but rides smooth on the pavement due to the center knob block size and design. Not quite as versatile as a TKC, but works very well...

Rid on!

Definitely buy those 17" tires when they are available because you will have trouble finding them in Peru and Bolivia and any of the Central American countries besides Costa Rica and Panama.

Just bought (1 hour ago) a knobby 17-3.50 inch tire in Cusco for my Bajaj Pulsar (rear tire). Was very easy.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
