Arriving Buenos Aires 8th Jan

Hola!

I'm about to leave in a few hours from Perth! The last few days have been a little crazy and unreal but it is happening! I'm going! I can't believe it! Come tuesday afternoon I'll be in BA!

Sorry. Don't have anything substantial to say. Thanks heaps for information people have shared and for this awesome website! Very inspirational..

I am in Buenos Aires for about a month before I leave so it would be great to see and meet and few fellow motorcylclists in your lovely country.

Cheers
Bruce

Bienvenitos a Buenos Aires

Hello, don't know if you want to travel all the way from Perth to find a couple motorcyling expats Elisa (Spain) and me Ed (USA) but Jeff, a Globebusters guide is renting a private room with bath from us and he is from New Zealand.

He just completed his second Alaska to Patagonia trip leading 18 BMWs...

Buenos Aires is comparable and in many ways much more exciting than any other great city and you will find many interesting people to meet and places to see. A month will just get you started. We live in Recoleta, about four blocks from the heart of Recoleta and welcome your e-mails touringnorth04@yahoo.com or a phone call when you arrive.
cell: 15 6811 1125 or 4805 5426 at home, Jeff may answer home phone too. Welcome xfiltrate Buenos Aries community member,

Hi Bruce,

How did you get on mate? Are you still on route?!!!!!

I am departing Melbourne (Aus) with 2 mates in Feb 09, landing in B.A, Argentina to do a very similar trip to yours - ride north to California!!

How did you go about buying a bike - getting it legal and getting out of Argentina? How long did t take you? We are hoping to get it all sorted in a few weeks, what do you think?

Hi Nick,
Why don't you fly into Chile then ride into Argentina? I've done lots of research and it's the easiest way, a good ride too.

Cheers Bruce,

We are currently looking at kitting bikes here in Australia first and shipping them over. Will cost about $500 each and take a month or so for the bikes to arrive.

Having time to sort the bikes out here first would be great also. Bikes in Victoria seem to be pretty expensive though - $5000 for an 02-04 KLR650. Hopefully we'll sort something out - perhaps Kawasaki will sell me (and 2 mates) 3 bikes at production cost??

We'll then be looking to ship the bikes back from the states when we are done.

What conclusion did you come to about getting bikes out of Chile? I'v read a few conflicting stories.

Nick
