brasil and beyond...
looks like i've got to go back to pick up my klr650 in buenos aires this september... after 9 months of "winging it" in south america, i don't look forward to randomly showing up into towns and finding safe places for me and the bike...again. anyone have good reliable sources to use for motorcycle friendly accomodations in brasil(the whole coast, not just sao paulo or rio)? looked on the HUBB threads for some, but the pickings are slim there...i'm looking to stay extended periods in florianopolis, recife, salvador, belem and elsewhere...also hoping to head up the amazon as far a manuas by boat. thereafter, i'll decide whether or not to float back to peru, or ride north to angel falls.
anyone esle going to be riding around this time of year(sept-december) in brasil?
thanks in advance for help or advice...

There's 'A Toca' in Florianopolis, a smaller version of La Posta, look at http://www.cieceropaes.com.br
For camping, look for 'Camping Club Do Brasil'. There are sites on the coast as far north as Fortaleza, not too many of them but they're all bike friendly. The campsite outside the entrance for Foz Do Iguacu is one & you can get a brochure with the addresses of all the others.

Bombinhas is the best place you can go in Santa Catarina, really lovely!
In Brasil accomodation is widely available and cheap (comparing to europe), look for "pousadas" and you'll be fine, loads of motels as well, but if staying in one ASK BEFORE what's the rate and how long it's for as they're NOT 24 hours, 'cos motel in Brasil is a different thing (usually the rates are cheaper from Mon - Thu)... Also on this places you'll have no contact with the staff (for obvious reasons), lol!
Enjoy it.
p.s. - I'll be back in December to Campinas (near SP), and if you fancy spending a few days there you're more than welcome,, just contact me!

I have a friend who lives in NY (Forest Hills) and they have a summer home down there, let me ask them if it's available.

8 months in Brazil...
hi...
just a quick bit of info. If you want GPS ref points of Brazil and maybe also to read about some of the places you may wish to visit...then my husband and I spent almost 8 months in Brazil.
our website is www.2ridetheworld.com
and we have a full 15 chapters of journal all on Brazil in our diary section...go to diary tag on home page, then select the continent and the country you are interested in reading about.
if you want any further information, just email us or place a question up on our guestbook.
cheers

GPS maps foc
Visit www.tracksource.org.br the maps are a lot better than the garmin one and you pay nothing, the work is done by volunteers and already covering a big part of the country, just great... Only problem is the site is in portuguese, but you should work it out easily using a web translator.

Sounds good- what areas do these cover and can you just add these to Garmins Mapsource then?
Thanks

Accomodations in Brasil
Once here try to attend any of the many "Moto Encontros". You will be amazed at the offers of hospitality to foreign Bike travelers.
To check out the Bike scene have a look at the Brasil Adventure site for Brasil:
http://inema.com.br
You will find under the motos section agendas of when & where such moto encotros are held. Hoist your country flag on your bike and be prepared for lots of social activity.
If you are in Rio Grande do Sul, we are close to Porto Alegre and have hosted many RTW travellers over the last 6 years.
Simon & Lisa from GB spent some time with us last year: Look at their Brazil section http://www.2ridetheworld.com
A few years back Chris & Erin http://www.ultimatejourney.com also thoroughly enjoyed their time here.

Hey there Smelly!
Just in case anyone else was having trouble with the website mentioned above, the actual website for the Brazilian posta in Florianopolis is Cicero Paes - Saindo do Lugar Comum - Relato de viagens sobre moto. I haven´t seen it nor do I know anything about it other than the site info, but on his website it says that there is a two night maximum stay, so it looks like it´s only for if you´re just passing through. I would recommend staying longer to explore Ilha Santa Catarina.
There are a couple of camping places at Lagoa da Concepcao, and maybe one two kilometers north of Pantano do Sul (I´ll get back to you all on that).
The Camping Club Do Brazil also has a website: Camping Clube On-Line. I don´t know how useful it is.
