Crossing the Darian Gap
Hi All
We are one year around SA and in and in a approx 4 months we expect to cross the Gap to then continue up to Mexico
Ideally we would like to take the Stahal Rat across but I'm finding it hard to find extra info about the trip; for example dates... costs etc. Does anyone have links/ contacts or knowledge on the Rat.
The other option would be to share a container..... not as glamorous or as many crayfish/ lobster to eat but a means to an end. Does anyone have any contacts or info on the best way to go about organising a share container and what the approx cost may be
thanks in advance

If the Stalratte is fully booked you can also FLY over. Hurricane season (July to November) sometimes affects the boat crossings.
Containers are cheaper if you can jump into one with a bunch of other vehicles. Can be a bit confusing to organize however.
Lots of info here on all this. Have a great ride!

Just send them (Sthalratte) a message on for example Facebook and hopefully they will answer you.

There is a «Tourplan» a bit down the side. As it seems they have a tour 8th August leaving from Cartagena and after that they have a long break and next tour is 11th October. And after that a couple of tours pr month.

Sthalratte (Steel Rat)
Its my understanding that they are in negotiations with Columbia to continue to provide sailings for Moto's around the Gap. Hopefully it gets sorted out!!
I sailed over to Columbia a few years ago and now on my return. I will look at shipping from Bogota to Panama, my concerns now are Nicaragua.
things change, gotta adjust

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
