Flying bike from Costa Rica to Colombia

Currently in Antigua, Guatemala, on our way to TDF in Argentina (fingers crossed). Want to spend more time in South America (we have only planned 5 months for the whole trip) and as we are heard there is only one company shipping bikes from Panama now and he has nearly double his prices we were thinking on shipping the bike from Costa Rica to Colombia instead. Does anyone has some advice or info on air freighters that operate this route please?

Thanks,

Trevor and Eva

Costa Rica to SA

Trevor and Eva.
Last November when we passed through there we met a fellow who is a purchasing manager for Taca airlines (we met he and his wife in Xela in Guatemala). Although he does not deal directly with shipping, he was able to get us a quote and contact information in San Jose for shipping from San Jose to Bogota. Taca does not normally deal with motorcycles, so there was some confusion as to how to get it done. We did not, in the end, ship from Costa Rica and carried on to Panama.

His name is Max Granillo and lives in San Salvador. He and his wife ride 2 up on a BMW. Very nice couple and he speaks excellent English. Anyway, this may be a place to begin inquiries. max.granillo at taca dot com. Say hello from Taz and Joel.

Hi Joel,

Thanks for the info. Just wondering if you thought it was worth to drive all the way to Panama or in hindsight would you have done things differently. In the meantime we will contact Max.

Cheers,

Trevor and Eva

We decided to push on to Panama--you know, bragging rights and all that nonsense for having ridden all the way. As I recall, we may have had to crate the bikes from San Jose to Bogota, but do not remember the details. Shipping from Panama City to Bogota is easy since Girag does it all the time. Ride up, pay your money. They roll it on an airplane and the deed is done.
