Shipping to/from Brazil
Hello; I want to recommend Brazil as a motorcycle travel destination. It was the highlight of my trip through 15 countries in Latin America. You can easily ship your bike by air to or from São Paulo with Augusto Leocadio, motoshipco@gmail.com +55 11 9.8152.4142. I found him through the HUBB.
I live on Vancouver Island and shipped my bike from São Paulo to Seattle with Augusto and can say that he knows the shipping business, is very professional and pays attention to details. My bike arrived without a scratch, with all my riding and camping gear, clothes and other stuff in my boxes. The bike was secured in a steel framed box which I'm keeping for future shipping.
Also, Augusto is associated with Touratech Brazil which has a great shop in a nice, safe area of São Paulo plus another one in Joinville. Gabriel Colafemina (gabriel@touratech.com.br) is the owner and he has great people working there, André and Stephano. All these people became good friends of mine. I left my bike with them in full confidence. They also have scheduled tours organized by BMW Rider Experience.
Brazil is a fantastic country with a huge variety of roads, including amazing mountain twisties, my favorites. The food is great, there is lots of campgrounds or hostels to stay at, the beaches and brazilian beauties are legendary but best of all, you will meet the warmest, friendliest, most helpful people and will be invited to stay at their homes, meet their families and friends, eat at their table. They are the nicest people I have met anywhere.
In conclusion I would say; don't stop in Buenos Aires, go to Brazil! You can ship your bike to or from there with Augusto. If that doesn't work, maybe you can rent or you can join a tour with Gabriel. They're trying to develop their business and I know they will do their very best to help you.

Paid 2500 USD. Got many quotes to ship from BA, Montevideo, other Brazil ports, all around the same range. This one is trustworthy and trouble free.

not recomended!
I shipped also my bike from Sao Paulo to South Africa with Augusto. He’s offer was 2400 USD. The final bill was 3150 USD! He charged me two times 100$ for two re-checks. In the quote he wrote one re-check is 50$. I asked for a receipt or a proof that the re-checks were made and that I see the real costs. He made an own receipt and was not able to send any original receipts from the airport. Then he charged me also all bank fees (also here nothing in the quote). The airlines charged him a lot more because he forgot to get a proper quote. After long discussion and hundreds of mails he charged me less because it was not my fault of the missing quote. He offer in USD but I had to pay in Reals (at least if you pay by wire transfer). The exchange rate he used was 20 % less than the normal exchange rate or the one the airlines uses (you can see this on the AWB).
Unfortunately he still had my sidecar to ship to Europe. For this he charge me 1000$ more than the first quote. Because I signed the Power of Attorney for him and I was already in South Africa I couldn’t change the Agent anymore. While shipping the sidecar I never felt that he wants to help me and that he is professional. E. g. he warned me: “I have to be careful when I use another agent. The most are not professional and finally I will get a fat bill”. Well, yes I got a fat bill, but from him….
Shipping time was 3 Weeks for the bike, from the day all the paperwork and payment was done from my side. For the sidecar it took 6 weeks. I guess for him it was the first time to receive money from another country. He gave me wrong Swift and IBAN codes and when I made a wire transfer to him, his bank blocked the transfer for 3 weeks!
The worst was that he lost my carnet de passage and other documents!
Please feel free to contact me if you like to have more information’s about my shipping with Augusto.

I was in contact with Juliana for long time and recognize that she is much more professional and much cheaper than Augusto:

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
