are you talking air filter or fuel filter? either way we checked both of them once we stopped for the day and both were normal. also, with hindsight, we can pinpoint the break to before the sandstorm so i don't think it was the culprit.
Alberto thinks it may have been a combination of degraded engine (BMW's official story), less than ideal gas, and maybe the wind asking a lot of the engine on that particular day.
anyone with the patience to read through the entire ADV thread (it's a bit daunting) will see there are lots of good theories, but i honestly think we will never know what really happened.

I was thinking of the air filter, it sounded more like that to me.
I think the only real culprit is BMW, and if your name was Ewan you would have magically had a new engine fitted over night by a truck load of strangers :-)
Oh well, you are back on the rad and have about 5000kms more of desert to look forward to :-)

Haha, yeah so far the desert hasn't blown up our engines. Yeah we put in new air filters, checked oil, drained tanks. We did all the obvious/simple things when the bikes started acting up.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
