Girag Takeout in Bogota, a crash course
It was easy. This is what you do if you ship bike Panama-Bogota with Girag.
Arrive at Bogota Airport Carga (you see Girag sign on left before arriving at the passenger terminal), at 7.30. they start at 8. Lady will tell you, if bike has arrived, if not, when. If yes, whe will give you the pink copy of your Waybill, and instruct you to go over to aduana (DIAN), and get an agent. You must walk across the airport expressway. Once there, show your Waybill and ask for help. A nice lady (they are all ladies, but not all of them are nice) will offer to accompany you over to Girag to inspect the bike. Take a long walk again. This time with the lady. At Girag she'll look at serial number and licence plate number, fill in several documents, and then the both you will walk back to DIAN. There several forms have to be filled in, one also by you. Then everything has to be photocopied (there is a machine right there). This will cost you less than a buck. Then you get your final clearance documents, all signed and sealed. Then you take another walk (there is a thicket on the way, where you can duck in and take a leak). Back at Girag, present your documents for final clearance, more photocopies, free this time). Then you can roll bike down the stairs (someone will help you), and you're free to ride into the sunrise. The whole procedure, less than two hours, cost less than a buck.
My suggestion, bring all your luggage. If bike is not there, you can take it back to your hotel with the taxi (about $5). But you don't want to ride the bike to your hotel to pick up your luggage. Downtown is full of one-way streets, dangerous bec. no traffic lights or stop signs.
