Before this thread slips off the first page, I wanted to see if there had been any update to this story? If would be great to hear that Nicolas surfaced at some point before or during the holidays?

Nicolas Holzem

Hi all,

no news.

I talked to Catherine Holzem for New Years. She will come back to Bolivia in April, maybe with Nicolas daughter. I hope we can go for a ride together.

Thanks for the update Mika, as usual. Just seems odd to me that he's not been in contact even with his daughter, but who knows... Still hoping to hear in the near future that he's re-established contact.

Nicolas has an account and posted to this group as NicoGSX with last login on Aug 16th 2019. Maybe admins can track location and IP of his last activity here?

Nicolas' last post was in June which doesn't help. The activity on 16 August was apparently just a log in, I don't think there's any record kept of the IP address of that but I will check.

You should be able to check in the HU moderator control panel. Search there on the user name. There are first and second level IP addresses. Grant will know what to do.

With the IP address you can geo-locate to some accuracy where the device that logged in was.

I have a list of all his IP addresses, BUT there is no DATE order, only numeric. No way to tell what was the last one.

I have date order logs but only back to November.

I use https://www.ip-tracker.org/lookup/whois-lookup.php to lookup IP addresses, works pretty well. But, no way to be sure of his route.

Any volunteers are welcome to try to figure it out, the above should be enough to work out a ROUGH route.

Using Grants' IP addresses, I plotted these on a map and numbered them in the same order as his list.
Please Note
These waypoints are absolutely NOT in any order (despite my sequencing them with numbers)
And
These are absolutely NOT precise geo-locations- just as-near-as using IP data
to help plot into Basecamp.
You also have to take into consideration the possibility that he may have used a VPN (the IPs' in Krakow are a slight oddity)
GPX file attached -
Sadly, without any date data, a route can only be guessed at but would be useless. The only possibly useful info is the number of different IPs' possibly indicating a number of days in the same/similar location - and that is assuming one log on a day.

Good work on that.

Unfortunately your hard work won't help trace him. All those locations on his route from Canada to Peru, are nowhere near where he was last seen in mid June 2019 crossing from Peru to Bolivia on Lake Titicaca and then onwards into the Bolivian jungle.

Nico lived in Krakow/Poland prior to his trip commencing. Were anyone in his circle able to log into his HU account? Did he save his HU password in PC browser in Poland?

Hope he's still alive, keeping a low profile somewhere of his choosing.

I realise that Chris- maybe Grant has more data he might share- It is the best I can do with info he provided.
He does say "I have date order logs but only back to November." so I can only assume that his system may be able to provide more time specific data- Grant? possible?

There's nothing in there of any help, as it's only since November - there are NO records of him posting or logging in during that time.

We have TWO different sources of logs, one going back to November, that is very complete, (though realistically incomprehensible as it's millions of lines per month) and one that's forever on all HUBB posts - but no dates, ONLY IP addresses and user ID associated with them, to help with spam fighting.
So, sorry, I have nothing else of use.

Thanks for the support!

Dear friends,

After talking to Mika this morning, I've decided to close this thread. The search is over - at least from my point of view. Nicolas has probably started a new life somewhere in SA. He'll get in touch when he's ready.

Thanks for all your help and your support!

Catherine
