How do I get a Kindle in Argentina?
Hi,
I'm on the road in Argentina (well, once my wheelbearing is fixed I will be....) and am looking to get a wifi+3G kindle. Amazon will not ship one here, I have an offer by a USA based buddy to buy one and ship it to me.
Before I had down that route, has anyone else got a better idea to get one?
Thanks!
Merv.

Hi,
Or on the very slim chance...
Is anyone flying in from a place where Kindles can be got to go to the Hubb meeting in Argentina in December? and if so, would they be feeling kindly, and might perhaps enjoy an Irish whiskey for a favor done?....

if you ship a kindle to Argentina and it gets picked up at customs by AFIP (the tax authorities) you will have to pay 120USD or more to collect it. I have done it and had to pay the import duties. But yours may get through undetected.

There is a shop in BA that sells it for $1450 (U$S307).
If you are in a hurry, you can arrange with them and ship it to my house, and when you are in Rio Gallegos, I give it to you.

If you buy a Kindle, will you be able to download Amazon books onto it in Argentina?

As an aside
I just had my Kindle stolen in Rio (walking along Ipanema beach in broad day light).
I looked for one in the shops in Rio - they don't sell them there so ended up with 3 English books that weigh a ton and take up lots of room!

There is a shopping mall on Florida, Called Jardins. Full of computer stuff. I saw Kinles i8n there yesterday. This is downtown Buenos Aires, the tourist area.
The other option is Santiago, Chile. Have seen them in a number of shops there.
