How to know if the passes are open/closed in Chile-Arg?

Hi all,

I am supposed to leave tomorrow via Paso PEHUENCHE near Talca, Chile. It is a paved route with a pretty large boarder station, so not a minor route by means. I was wondering if anyone has a number, or some way of finding out the current condition up there? Obviously driving all the way up only to be turned back wouldn´t be ideal. I checked online and it did say the pass was closed, but the information seems to be out of date - i.e. in July.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Rtw

You can check the border conditions and find detailed information on the following links:

Gendarmeria Nacional Argentina

it’s in Spanish but you will be able to google-translate it.

Also from Chile Gov: Unidad de Pasos Fronterizos - Gob.erno de Chile

The weather condition in the Andes could change in hours, so check the links often.

There are numbers if you want to call...

Saludos

Thanks Javier -

Has anyone crossed LOS LIBERTADORES in winter? It says;

Quote:
Users driving with extreme caution, at low speed and to abide by the safety rules and transit arranged by police, who control the carrying of chains in the sector Old Guard, to avoid accidents, formations are requested ice still exist in this area of high mountains.
Maybe it´s not worth it, and I´ll just continue north on the Chilean side - any opinions?

By this time on last year we were in Uspallata/Mendoza and we cross a Brazilian couple on a G650 who just comes from Chile and they told us that were very cold but perfectly rideable, they were 2 days on the Chilean side waiting for the pass reopen and be clean.
For Brazilians 20ºC is F.. Cold...
If its open avoid the extreme hours, do the cross to be up at midday and only just be careful with ice on the dark curves.

If you continue north by Chile side you will miss the best of Argentina, Mendoza and farther north till Bolivia border; the Ruta 40 and all what we call the NOA.
