Nice pic, not so nice piston.

So the big K came to the rescue in what way exactly? (you're a bit succinct in that last post Simon).

ps There's a whole new area of threads to recommend good workshops, if that is what you have found - more likely that someone else will find the information in the future.

Question Kawa

Hello Simon,
Have you been pumping water with the KLR motor?looks like damage I have seen done by water in the combustion chamber. If you have been,do not let Kawasaki know, warranty would not cover it.
I am in Buenos Aires at the moment, leaving for Iguazu falls on Monday.
Enjoy the Xmas party at Usuaia.

If you read Simon's website , he states that Kawasaki honoured his warranty , even though technically they were under no obligation to do so .
This is VERY GOOD PUBLIC RELATIONS for Kawasaki !

Smile Klr

Read Simon,s web site after I posted my reply.Could understand why the problem was caused by the fuel.Had to rev the guts out of my KLR on that fuel, even BMW gs 1200 were rattling. Was good of Kawasaki to do the work under warranty.

Kawasaki

Hey everyone,

It is true, Kawasaki did honour the warrenty, and as I said on the website they really didnt have to. I dont know what caused the damage, but I thought it was fuel after peru and the ´official´ kawasaki statement was indeed that the damage was caused by piston knock due to bad fuel. Anyhow if it was water I shall be using more of it as it got me 2500 miles in that conditon, and water is a darn sight cheaper than petrol!

Currenty in El Califate after 4 days of riding like a machine from Santiago. Bit of time for sight seeing after all!

See people in Ushuia.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
