Motorcycle Insurance for South America
Greetings everyone
I am in Medellin, Colombia & planning to start my ride to T de Fuego & back in 4 weeks
I am trying to find insurance against theft/robbery for my bike (I already have medical insurance for myself) for Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay & Bolivia.
I have spoken to SURA & MAPFRE, but neither will cover all countries. SURA is the best option but will not include coverage for Argentina or Uruguay (3 months of my trip)
Any advice? Obviously I am looking for coverage for all countries listed.

tbh I never had the feeling, that our bikes would get stolen in Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. Usually ADV riders don't spend much time in big cities anyway. And the few times in bigger cities, you'll have a hostel/hotel anyway and probably safe parking.

Best insurance is to make sure you have safe parking each night. Many places will let you bring the bike inside the lobby or have a secure parking. If they don’t have this, try another place as it shouldn’t be that hard to arrange. This is easiest to work out if you are just finding a place at the end of each day. If you are using an app to book places before you arrive just get a local sim and call them before you finalize your booking

Well I didn’t get much further - a couple of insurance companies in Argentina turned me down & the company that I tried in the UK wanted crazy money.
So, I bought insurance (3rd party & theft) from SURA, here in Colombia. The premium works out to be 9% of the value of the bike. Worth it? Possibly not, but I prefer peace of mind.
I won’t be covered in Argentina so I will be traveling with a disc lock for the front and a lock+chain for the back. Wherever I can, the bike will overnight in secure parking
Beyond that, it’s in the hands of the motorcycle gods.
