Motorcycles available in Ecuador
We are three KLR riders currently living in Ecuador. For personal reasons we have to return to the US. We did not ride our KLR´s here, we drove a Subaru (I know, I know, I can´t explain now!) and bought three 200cc enduros down here. I know a 200cc isn´t exactly a KLR 650, but they get us around and are better off road to boot.
If anyone is interested in them, we are willing to leave them here and sell them to you at a reasonable price. (They retail at about $1500 new and these only have 1500-2000km on them, local miles, we were only commuting to our jobs teaching English and the mountians on the weekends)
We also have an apartment here where anyone who reads this is welcome to stop for a meal or repairs anytime before March 8, as one of our friends will be there until then.
Please e-mail me ASAP if interested, if there are no takers we are shipping them back to Miami (cheap from here) and riding back to Michigan.
Nate

Nate, be aware that registering them in the US can be impossible if they are not an exact model already available in the US - and even then it can be tricky if it doesn't have a US EPA etc sticker on them. Certainly on entry do NOT say you are bringing them home to register - you may not even get them into the country. You're "just passing through" with them and returning to Ecuador shortly.

Thanks for the heads up re: the US government and the importation of vehicles. Always good to be thinking about that stuff everyone. We were planning on bringing them in and setting them up as home built vehicles with old titles from long since passed motorcycles.
PS: If anyone every wants to get rid of a Subaru and or other vehicle while traveling through Central America, Honduras works very well. We simply did not check our car in and though we were stopped twice in the first 5 miles, they never actually asked for our proper papers, only bribes, which they did not get either.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
