Need a good Mechanic in Florianopolis

Hi All,

I am in Florianopolis after 10 months on the road from the US and was looking for a recomended motorcycle mechanic here in Floripa. I am riding a KLR650 2008, Brazil has all the other motorcycle dealer for sure but not Kawasaki?

I need a new chain, some tyres and a good service that the bike needs.

Thanks Mojo

We past through Florianopolis few months ago in a pouring rain, so don't really know how big or modern it actually is.

The best is always go to some local biker community or club. I reckon if there's no parts locally they can ship them from closer Curitiba or Sao Paulo (both we saw and are very modern metropols) with just few days delay.

The most helpful people we've met on the road are from Brazil so far, so don't hesitate to ask from local bikers, even if you don't know the lingo - just point your finger on your chain, they'll understand . I had my rear shock blown after hard jungle offroad close to Salvador and in some farming city I could get VERY rare parts for the shocks shipped from Sao Paulo within 3 days.

Take care and enjoy Brasil while you can! (it's our highlight country in S-Am, especially the north part so far!) Margus

Hi Mo!

Have responded to the mail but I see a difference in the name, so hereby again. I am not working here as a bike mechanic as in Holland but at least have tools and a bit of knowledge still. You are welcome to stay here and we can have a look at the bike if you want. As these are the 2 months we have to earn the money for the rest of the year it is a bit hectic still till end of feb, but as you said you will be till march 16 around, after the 1st of March things are a lot quieter here and you can stay here too, free of charge. In fact we need a gardner then, so if you are looking for a job??? (just kidding)
Marcel

Sure

Thanks Marcel,

Yes I do have two names going at the same time. I will call you this evening. I have a lot of experience in hotels & restaurants so if you do need any help then could be of service to you. Not too sure of my gardening skills!!

Cheers Mojo

Thanks Patrick,

Thanks Patrick,

Long time no speak, yeah I made it all this way with not too much drama anyway. Been great but all good things must come to an end. I have found a friend of a friend of a friend out here in Floripa who have been great. I have been taken around by them to get more than what I thought I wanted doing & needed, all very reasonably.

The old girl is runing so well that feel bad to sell her now!! It was great to have a local 65year old specialist take a stethoscope to the engine & listen to it at different RPM'S; not sure how but somehow the lines of experience on his forehead seemed reassuring. Even without the language they were extremely helpful. The only thing I need to source is new tyres but they are a plenty but twice the price of anywhere else even though they are made less than two hours away!! I will decide on that depending on what I plan on doing as to the way home. Ship from Rio or ride back to Lima in a bid to try & sell it there. Not having much luck with the sale at the moment.

Well thanks for your advice once again cheers Mojo.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
